Deputies respond to drowning at Fort de Soto Park

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Pinellas deputies say they responded to a drowning at Fort de Soto Park near the Fort de Soto pier just after 3 p.m. Saturday.

According to deputies, a 73-year-old man was in visiting the beach with family and was in the water when family members noticed he was unresponsive. Then, deputies said bystanders in the area assisted in pulling him from the water, began CPR and called 9-1-1.

When help arrived, deputies say the man was transported to a local hospital via ambulance were he later died.

Deputies say the drowning appears to be accidental and it is unknown right now if it is health related.
