Tampa Bay, As secruity lines aren't like they were 5 years ago; the TranSportation Security Administration (TSA) is busy trying to ensure passenger safety with what some deem as extreme security measures, a flight attendant nearly slipped through the cracks.

A weapon was found in the possession of Jaclyn Luby, of Republic Airlines, as she passed through security at Philadelphia International Airport early Sunday (Sept. 23).

Luby concealed the weapon, a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson Airweight revolver in her carry-on bag. After an agent tried to put the safety on the gun, it discharged, firing into a TSA break room, but Luby was in another area security area.

No one was injured when the gun went off.

Despite the strange story, some passengers seemed to be sympathetic to her blunder. “We are human and everybody does make mistakes and I understand that, even though she's a seasoned veteran, she needs to be careful,” said US Airways passenger Andrea Burger. “I'm sure it will be a great learning opportunity for her.”

Others however were not so understanding. "Why would a flight attendant bring a gun, why would she carry a gun, I don't know," said US Airways passenger Devrim Eren.

Luby, whose employer operates flights for US Airways, told authorities that she had a permit for the weapon, but forgot that it was in her bag. She was given a citation for carrying a legally owned firearm.
