Tampa Bay, if you watched the debate, you already know that many critics are saying President Barack Obama failed to win the first of a trio of presidential debates against GOP candidate Mitt Romney last week, the already tightly contested race for the White House has narrowed even further. The President promises to turn things around in the upcoming weeks during an interview yesterday morning (October 11) with the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show radio program.
The Obama campaign, recognizing the commander-in-chief's woes, are aiming to make up for lost ground. “I think it's fair to say I was just too polite, because, you know, it's hard to sometimes just keep on saying and what you're saying isn't true,” said Obama via a phone call from Ohio. “It gets repetitive. But, you know, the good news is, is that's just the first one. “
Obama, using a sports analogy, spoke frankly about the difficulty of the campaign and the tight nature of the race. “Tom, you guys know a little bit about basketball. You know, you have a seven game series, we're up two zero and we lose one,” said Obama.
Joyner interjected with “Yeah, but you had the open shot and you didn't take it!” to which Obama responded, “Yeah, I understand, but you know, what happens though is that when people lose one game, you know, this is a long haul... and I think that it's very important for folks to just make sure that they understand that as long as people stay focused we will win this thing.”
Enjoying a bump in polls and positive press, Romney's camp has exuded tons of confidence. Tonight, Vice President Joe Biden will square off against Romney running mate Paul Ryan in Kentucky in their lone debate. Obama is confident that the typically loquacious Biden will vanquish Ryan, considering the Delaware native's long history of these types of debates and his bombastic, no-holds-barred style. Obama also has another chance to win the hearts and votes of the American populace on Oct 16, when he and Mitt Romney face each other in the second debate in New York.
